PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 7, 2025) – Rhode Island Energy is proud to announce a sponsorship with The National Theatre for Children (NTC) to provide in-school, live performances focused on electrical safety at elementary schools throughout its service territory. The sponsorship will bring the performances to over 8,000 children in 33 schools this spring and fall as part of a tour across the Ocean State.
The 30-minute in-school assembly, titled “The Safety Detectives,” is performed by two actors from The National Theatre for Children and teaches students about electricity and how to stay safe around it. See a video about one of the events here.
The program is designed to teach students what electricity is, the uses of electricity, how to identify dangerous electrical situations and how to prevent electrical fires. Schools are given supplemental digital education materials that include e-books, digital games, and activities themed around the program so that teachers can discuss electrical safety with their students.
“We’re so happy to bring this program to Rhode Island, as it has been very positively received by both students and teachers throughout its 10-year run,” said Cathy St. Onge, senior safety professional at Rhode Island Energy. “It’s important that children learn the basics of electrical safety, and these shows bring the messages home in a relatable way. They are being empowered with knowledge to keep themselves—and those around them—safe.”
The National Theatre for Children is a woman-owned, award-winning educational content provider that creates in-school presentations, livestream performances, e-learning, web, graphic novels, print curriculum, and digital games and activities to teach, entertain and inspire students, families and educators on behalf of organizations that want to make a real difference in their communities.
