PROVIDENCE, R.I. (September 18, 2025) – Continuing its commitment to supporting customers and communities across the Ocean State, Rhode Island Energy (RIE) will be holding its annual Day of Caring on Thursday, September 18. Through this effort, RIE employees will participate in a variety of volunteer activities across the state, working to make a positive impact in the communities where they live and work.
During RIE's Day of Caring, employee volunteers will contribute to supporting eight vital community organizations across the state. Local initiatives range from organizing pantries, setting up community events, garden clean-up, and more.
RIE team members will take part in the following volunteer activities:
- Jonnycake Center of Westerly: Organizing thrift store, pantry, and garden clean-up
- Rhode Island Community Food Bank: Packing boxes and assisting with food sorting projects
- Good Neighbors Community Kitchen and Food Pantry: Assisting in food pantry organization and garden clean-up
- Providence Promise: Helping with the set-up, clean-up, and facilitating engaging activities for children during Providence Promise's Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
- Operation Stand Down's Annual Veterans' Assistance Event: Assisting in event coordination
- Front Street Family Center of Woonsocket: Stocking and cleaning the basic needs center
- Meals on Wheels: Crafting materials for seniors to accompany food deliveries
- Blackstone River bikeway clean-up: Clean-up and trash collection on the bike path
"This Day of Caring, RIE is proud to partner with local community organizations across Rhode Island to make an impact and contribute more than 280 volunteer hours in the communities in which we live and serve," said Kate Felder, Corporate Citizenship Coordinator at Rhode Island Energy. “All of us at RIE are so happy to work with our community partners to help make Rhode Island an even more incredible place to call home!”
RIE's Day of Caring is part of its parent company PPL's company-wide volunteer effort, inspiring reflection of the company's shared commitment to compassion and community. The annual Day of Caring will gather hundreds of employees from PPL Services, PPL Electric Utilities, Louisville Gas and Electric, Kentucky Utilities, and RIE who will be out in full force, creating a lasting impact in the communities where they live and serve.
In 2025, RIE alone will contribute over 600 volunteer hours to local organizations and communities across Rhode Island.
