A charity fishing competition run by staff at Western Power Distribution (WPD) has raised money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Sixty anglers from the company took part at Meadowlands Fishery in Ryton on Dunsmore, near Coventry.

The competition has been running for the last five years; raising money for charities including the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the County Air Ambulance and The Wish upon a Star Foundation.

Lee Wallace, Distribution Manager from WPD and competition organiser, said: “Our main aim is to raise money for charity while creating a bit of friendly rivalry between the teams and individuals involved.”

The event raised £1175 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, this year’s chosen charity. Shahaji Sattar, Corporate Partnerships Consultant at the Hospital, said: “WPD has done amazingly well in raising so much through their fishing competition. The donation will be going towards our Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal, where it will make a big difference to the children that are treated here.”

Lee added that the event is a great example of WPD’s dedication to community support. “The event is a fantastic reflection of how WPD is working with the communities it serves,” he said.
