PPL Corporation is working to facilitate growth in local communities by sponsoring economic development training for young professionals at Pennsylvania State University.

“Economic development is the cornerstone to helping communities thrive,” said Don Bernhard, director, Community Affairs. “If we can enhance the quality and effectiveness of economic development, communities will be revitalized and overall prosperity enhanced. At PPL, we feel it is our duty to help the communities that we are privileged to serve.”

PPL is sponsoring six students on the first step of the rigorous process that can lead to the Certified Economic Developer designation granted by the International Economic Development Council. The professionals are handpicked from economic development organizations throughout eastern Pennsylvania to help communities thrive.

The subject matter covered during the training class is both theoretical and practical. Instructors for the course have been drawn from the ranks of business, academic institutions and development organizations. Presentations will be concise and practice-oriented, with ample time for questions and open discussion.

PPL is pleased to help economic development organizations pursue national best practices, and that starts with professional development of staff. PPL continues to fund tuition for classes and the exam required to obtain Certified Economic Developer status.
