PPL Gas Utilities Offers Help for Customers In Need

PPL Gas Utilities encourages customers struggling to pay their heating bills to contact the company for information on energy assistance programs before falling behind in their payments.

“Help is only a phone call away,” said Robert M. Geneczko, president of PPL Gas Utilities. “We have a history of helping customers in need, and we’ve recently expanded our assistance programs.”

For information, PPL Gas Utilities customers may call toll-free at 1-800-652-0550.

Last winter, more than 7,200 PPL Gas Utilities customers received more than

$1.9 million in assistance through the federal government’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which protects families from utility shutoffs.

Any customer who has received a utility shutoff notice and meets certain income guidelines should apply for a LIHEAP crisis grant before the program closes March 22, 2007. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about LIHEAP, customers may call PPL Gas Utilities.

To help customers on limited or fixed incomes this winter, PPL Gas Utilities announced that it would not shut off gas service to any customers earning less than 300 percent of the federal poverty level, which is $58,000 a year for a family of four. To qualify, customers must contact PPL Gas Utilities before March 31, 2007.

PPL Gas Utilities also offers energy assistance to qualified low-income customers from the Operation Share Energy Fund, reduced bills through the company’s customer assistance program or free home weatherization services to help reduce energy bills. Customer service representatives also can help customers establish payment arrangements that fit their financial situation.

PPL Gas Utilities is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) and provides natural gas delivery service to 76,000 homes and businesses in 34 Pennsylvania counties and a small portion of Maryland.
